Literacy Champions Fellowship

Two-year literacy fellowship empowers champions through play-based early education, personal development, community service, and innovative literacy solutions.

This is a program with a two-year cycle repeated across various communities and community libraries. The fellowship’s core training emphasizes early literacy skills and teaching through play, nurturing young minds right from the start. The subsequent personal development training not only empowers the fellows but equips them to serve as change agents and role models to the young minds they impact. Through community service, each group of three literacy champions engages with 15 to 25 children in community book clinics, fostering literacy and a love for learning. Advocacy efforts focus on creating an enabling environment for children to express themselves freely, further nurturing their development.

In addition, fellows conduct community outreaches through the Literacy on Wheels initiative, where they ensure children in hard-to-reach areas that do not have access to libraries or learning materials also receive literacy sessions periodically. Through this, they enhance literacy advocacy and boost their communal impact.

As a close-off for the literacy fellowship, the fellows undergo week-long Boot Camp that fosters discussions on education and literacy, as well as networking with organizations, reinforcing the impact of the fellowship on both the fellows and the communities they serve. Ultimately, the fellowship culminates in a graduation ceremony on the International Literacy Day, celebrating the achievements of fellows as they complete their course and continue nurturing the young minds they’ve touched.
